Ceremonies: Rutgers University Commencement and School Convocations

Rutgers University Commencement is the big celebration for students receiving all Rutgers degrees—undergraduate, graduate, and professional—from schools at Rutgers University–New Brunswick and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS). School convocations are ceremonies with their own distinct traditions, including individual recognition of each graduate.

Rutgers University–Newark and Rutgers University–Camden each host commencement festivities at their respective locations.

Eligibility

Rutgers University hosts graduation ceremonies in May only. Eligibility to participate in May 2021 Rutgers University Commencement and convocations varies by school. Check with your school for information regarding eligibility. Students must also have been cleared of all financial obligations.

Undergraduate students who anticipate completing January 2021 degree requirements must apply for graduation by submitting a diploma application online. The deadline is January 15, 2021. Please contact the Undergraduate Registrar’s Office via this contact form with any questions. Please note that completion of a diploma application does not imply that graduation requirements have been met.

Academic Attire

Rutgers University–New Brunswick and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS)-affiliated students will be able to purchase regalia—cap, gown, tassel, and academic hood—from the university bookstore, Barnes & Noble at Rutgers University in New Brunswick. Information on how to purchase will be made available in the coming months.
