Who Should Attend University Commencement
Diploma Recipients
Degree candidates from the following Rutgers graduate schools receive their diplomas at University Commencement and are urged to attend and to invite family and friends:

Graduate School–New Brunswick: all degree candidates
Graduate School of Education: all doctoral degree candidates
Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology: all degree candidates
Mason Gross School of the Arts: all doctoral degree candidates

Representative Candidates
All degree candidates who will receive their degrees at one of the many college and school convocations are encouraged to participate in University Commencement as representative candidates from their schools. You will be able to robe and process with your school’s delegation of degree recipients. If you wish to attend University Commencement as a representative candidate from your school, contact your dean’s office as soon as possible to obtain further instructions.

Faculty, Staff, and Guests
All faculty are invited and urged by President Richard L. McCormick to participate in University Commencement by joining their colleagues and the degree candidates from their academic unit in the academic procession. To process, faculty members must wear appropriate caps, gowns, and hoods. Faculty who wish to rent or purchase academic regalia through any of the university bookstores should make arrangements as soon as possible. Tickets are not required.

Staff are also welcome to attend University Commencement, with the assent of their supervisors, who are encouraged to grant the time to all those whose work attendance on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 20, is not essential.

Family members and guests of faculty and staff are also welcome.
